Arranmore Utd Win 2-0 Away to Gweedore

Arranmore United ran out 2-0 winners yesterday away to Gweedore Utd in very difficult conditions! With only one or two absentees the game started evenly enough with Wan Dan doing well to put the Gweedore number 9 under pressure from what seemed a free header resulting in the striker heading wide. After a shaky 15 mins with 1 or 2 positional changes Arranmore began to grow more into the game and won most of the 50/50 balls, largely due to Marty Proctor who was excellent when switched into centre midfield. Arranmore were dangerous from corners with Paul McGarvey going close before Chim let fly with a daisy cutter but couldn't find a way past the home keeper.

In the 30th minute Arran took the lead as Daniel Rocky swung in a corner from the left side but found the ball cleared back to him before he controlled and chipped to the back post where Wan Dan was steaming in to head the ball past the helpless keeper for his 1st goal of the season! Gweedore came close 2 minutes later following a free flowing move which resulted in Gerard Diver making a brilliant last gasp challenge to deflect the ball wide for a corner! Chim, Paul McGarvey and Wan Dan did well clearing several times from the dangerous set pieces! Minutes later Wan Dan made it 2 following another Daniel Rocky corner which Declan let run through his legs and the ball found Marty Proctor who had his shot saved but Wan Dan was on hand to stab home from 2 yards.

Gweedore came out in the 2nd half with the strong wind at their back and were intent on forcing a way back into the game but with Mark Ward and Declan closing of the wings and Paul McGarvey, Gerard Diver, Chim and Wan Dan keeping the back door shut they couldn't find the breakthrough, although they went close two or three times as Rua was forced to turn the ball around the post on more than one occasion!! Doalty boyle and Chris McGlanaghy also had late chances for arran but were unable to convert.

Great performance from all the lads against our fellow title contenders in harsh conditions with a special mention to Martin Proctor who was outstanding throughout!!
