ARRANMORE ISLAND FISHERMEN TO HOLD MEETING THIS SUNDAY

Donegal Island fishermen are holding a meeting on Arranmore Island this Sunday the 23rd of February at 12.30 pm in the islands community center, Ionad an Chrois Bhealaigh.

Spokesman Jerry Early believes that the time is right to form a committee which can represent the islands at regional and National level, particularly in the inshore sector. Jerry commented, “We have many challenging issues facing this sector and we plan to meet them head on. Jerry has urged all Donegal Island fishermen to attend the meeting to put their best foot forward in an attempt to alleviate the challenges that are crippling the sector and threatening its very existence.

Jerry points out that the islanders just a few weeks back showed the power of people standing together and forming a committee when news broke that the HSE planned to remove the public health nurse from the Island. The successful campaign led to the HSE to withdraw their plan to remove the public health nurse from the Island. Jerry is hoping the meeting on Sunday can have a similar effect.
