Arranmore Utd Draw 2-2 With Orchard Utd

The visitors came to the island with aspirations of winning the title but left very lucky to get a point as it took a hotly disputed 90 minute penalty for them to get a draw. Jerry was forced into key positional changes as Rua was out due to work commitments which saw Conor Proctor thrown between the sticks. It also seen the return of former captain Edward McGowan after a 7 year absence which took the average age of the team way up! Edward and the lads started brilliantly soaking up the early pressure and took the lead after 10 minutes when Chris was taken down in the box. Daniel Rocky made no mistake from the spot. Declan doubled the lead on 20 minutes when great build up play saw him fire home from a very acute angle. Orchard had plenty of the ball but the lads worked very hard with Chim, Wan and Marty clearing everything that came into the box. Michael, Edward, Sean and Chris worked tirelessly in the midfield and Declan, Przemeck and Rocky were causing havoc every time Arranmore broke. Stand in Keeper Conor dealt comfortably with everything that came his way.

 Half time 2 - 0

The expected onslaught from Orchard came at the start of the second half but the lads defended as if there lives depended on it and Przemeck had a chance to kill the game but his effort went just wide. Orchard hit back on the hour when their full back strode forward and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Arranmore continued to soak up the pressure and were harshly penalised when despite Daniel being clean through with an open goal he was crudely taken out and to compound matters the offending player only received a yellow Card. The referee then made another glaring error on 88 minutes when he blew offside against Chris when he was about to score, this despite the attacker coming from a position where he was clearly onside. We all knew what was coming as 2 minutes later on the stroke of full time the referee then gave Orchard a penalty which they made no mistake from. Very harsh on this young and vastly improving Arranmore team who continuously punch above their weight.

Jerry has assembled a team that have a huge pride in the jersey and if this team stay together for 3 or 4 years they will be a force. Not bad from a population of 450. Great team performances with Declan, Wan, Chim and Marty outstanding.

Team: Conor, Sean McCaluey, Wan, Ruan, Declan, Marty, Ed, Chris, Michael, Przemeck, Rocky.

Subs: Phil Boyle for Przemeck, Sean Conlon for Chris, not used Jason.

Arranmore Win Against Erne wanderers

Arran traveled to Ballyshannon to take on 2nd placed Erne today and came away with a massive 3 pts.
Both teams started off knocking the ball about well with chances at a premium until good work down the right hand side between young Sean Mc Cauley and Daniel Rocky resulted in the later cutting the ball back across goal from the endline to find Chris McGlanaghey who fired home at the 1st time of asking.

This setback fired up the home side and they came flying out of the blocks but Chim, Wan Dan and Conor Proctor blocked all that was thrown their way with Marty Proctor and Michael McHugh battling for every loose ball in the middle also Arran saw out the remainder of the half at 1-0.

The Ballyshannon men came out meaning business at the start of the 2nd half and following a mix up at the back which resulted in a nasty injury for Chim their number 9 headed the ball into an open net.
Arran rallied again after this looking to get a foothold gain as the home side upped the tempo and following a misplaced pass in the home defence Daniel Rocky shot 1st time from 25 yards and found his shot hit the back of the Erne net making it 2-1.

Again the home team threw men forward and seemed to win free after free and corner after corner putting Arran under a lot of pressure, pressure which told in the 70th minute when the home sides number 6 headed home a corner at the back post. 2-2.

The game had a real edge to it from then on in with Arran determined to leave with something. Phil Boyle, Marty Proctor, Michael McHugh and Wan Dan emphasised this with great last ditch blocks and tackles in the final quarter.

Arran got the winner with 12 mins to go as a brilliant cross in from the left from Declan Proctor was knocked home 1st time from Przemeck Turski to leave the score at 3 2.The whole team defended really well thereafter with a sweet strike from all of 25 yards the closest the home team came to finding an equaliser as it cannoned back of the crossbar with Michael McHugh clearing well from the rebound.

Great team performance with big displays coming from Marty Proctor, Michael McHugh and Chim (before his injury).

Team: Rua, Jason, Wan Dan, Michael, Chim, Conor, Declan, Marty, Rocky, Sean McCauley,Christopher.
Subs: Przemeck for Chim, Shane Elliott for Sean McCauley and Phil Boyle for Jason. Unused Michael Dalewski.

Arranmore Utd vs Fintown Harps Report

Arranmore Utd lost 3 - 1 away to Fintown Harps at the weekend with Michael McHugh giving the islanders the lead. But the home side equalised before half time and scored again shortly after the re-start. Arranmore threw everything at them in the final half hour but found the home keeper in inspired form and when he was beaten the woodwork denied us!! Chasing an equaliser Fintown made it 3 - 1 in the final minute as their striker broke from a cleared corner and found the net from 12 yards out!

Next week Home v Erne Wanderers of Ballyshannon.

Arranmore Win at Glenree

Arranmore Utd travelled to Glenree Utd yesterday decimated with injuries and absentees with the aim of climbing further up the league table. In came Chim Reynolds, Wan Dan and Rua from last week's line up and from the start Arranmore were in a determined mood to leave with all three points. Chris McGlanaghey and Daniel Rocky went close early on but to no avail while Wan Dan, Chim, Jason and young Phil Boyle snuffed out any chances at the other end.

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes as Sean McCauley and Conor Proctor did brilliantly before the latter beat his man down the right wing he got to the endline and crossed for the onrushing Chris McGlanaghey who prodded home the first. This was the start we wanted and it could have been two minutes later as the home defence did well to clear as it looked as though Conor Proctor was going to make it two. Conor chased down a lost cause minutes later and beat the keeper to the ball but his shot also went narrowly wide before captain Wan Dan made it 2-0 as a brilliant corner from Daniel Rocky was headed home.

Half time 2-0

Arranmore were determined not to let the same thing happen as did they against Glenea earlier in the season letting a 2-0 halftime lead slip and so went about their business as usual in the 2nd half with Conor, Rocky and Chris going close but gradually Glenree came into the game following a double substitution with Vinny McLaughlin causing problems immediately. Glenree scored in the 65th minute with a neat finish across goal following some good attacking play from the home side. It was a case of backs to the walls for a time thereafter as Glenree threw everything at the islanders but time after time Michael McHugh, Marty Proctor won the 2nd ball in midfield and when they didn't the backline stood up to everything thrown at them.

Glenree almost equalised with 12 mins on the clock but Rua saved well and Michael did brilliantly to clear from two yards out under extreme pressure. Arran pushed on the counter in the 83rd minute and Przemeck won a corner after chasing down a nothing ball and Arran made the game safe from this as Christopher McGlanaghey found the net. With time ticking down Arran worked the ball in again from a set piece and Michael and Rocky did well before the ball was crossed from the right and in came Przemeck to hammer the ball home to the roof of the net. A team performance with a special mention to young Phil and Sean who looked at home playing at such a young age.

Team: Rua, Wan Dan, Chim, Jason, Sean McCauley, Phil Boyle, Marty Proctor, Daniel Rocky, Michael McHugh, Christopher McGlanaghey, Conor Proctor. Przemeck for Sean McCauley (60mins)

Next week see's us travel to Fintown Harps.
